2010 Strategic Leadership Visit: Chicago

Now in its 5th year, the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce’s Strategic Leadership Visit continues a great tradition of leaders from Gwinnett and Metro Atlanta visiting and learning from our peers in other successful communities.

In Chicago, DuPage County, and Naperville, Il, we will see a community who regularly tops a number of national “Best Of” lists and whose public and private sector leaders have been successful in addressing issues in…

  • Education - Specifically STEM Programs, Learning Readiness PE, and Business-Foundation Support

  • Transportation - Specifically DuPage County Airport and Privatization Efforts at Midway, Chicago’s Regional Transit Authority’s Model, and PPPs and the Chicago Skyway

  • Economic Development - Specifically, IIT’s Knapp Entrepreneurial Center Incubator, Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center and Innovate Now! Initiative

  • Revitalization - Specifically, downtown Naperville’s renaissance and Chicago’s use of TIFs to revitalize blighted areas

  • Tourism, Arts &Culture - Specifically, targeted CVB programs to attract tourists and sports-related events, and Naperville’s and Chicago’s art scene

  • Regional Collaboration - Specifically, an overview of Chicago’s Metropolis 2020 plan and the Suburbs’ role

Like past visits to Fairfax County, VA, Collin County, TX, the Research Triangle in NC, and Metro Denver, CO, delegates will come home from this trip with new ideas and ways to work together, but perhaps the greatest value may be the opportunity for our business and civic leaders to cultivate new friendships and a common sense of mission to improve the quality of life for our area.
